Gazelles are a species of antelope that lived during the ice ages, and into the modern day.

Traits[]

Built along the same lines as elk of the era were, gazelles have stout, compact bodies with long, thin limbs, at the ends of which are small, cloven hooves. Long snouted, gazelles have two short, double-tipped curved horns atop their heads, along with broad ears. The gazelle of the ice ages sported a single, thin horn on the snout above the nose, a trait that was lost after the present era begun. Gazelles are well capable of reaching great speeds, a trait useful in running from predators

History[]

Gazelles were among the prey of Saber-toothed Tigers and Scimitar-toothed Cats. One gazelle among others resided in the Snow Valley, where, one day while grazing, was ambushed by a Saber-Tooth Tiger named Diego, who pursued the gazelle on through fields and rocky paths until finally exhausting himself and dropping down. The gazelle, on the other hand, took the opportunity to mock the saber on the spot for being so slow.

The gazelles of Snow Valley, along with the gazelle that had escaped capture, would be among the creatures to witness a Tyrannosaurus, a creature long since thought extinct, emerging into their midst. Several years later, some gazelles witnessed a meteor shower, and, not long after that, they were invited to the wedding of Peaches and Julian, two mammoths that were members of the herd that stopped a deadly asteroid. Gazelles were among the animals that survived the ice ages, and made it into the present day.

Trivia[]

Behind the Scenes[]

As with elk, no true gazelle species has a horn on its snout as shown in the films, however other prehistoric ungulates, called Protoceratids (who lived before the ice ages) had a more ramified horn and were very similiar to the gazelles in the movie, also because the pairs of horns on their heads are almost identical. The snout horn may be a reference to the protoceratids, while it does resemble Synthetoceras, since it has a nasal horn like all Proceratids, and having two brow horns, the real Synthetoceras had a second horn on its nasal horn, and it also didn’t have extra horns on atop of its head.
